The Importance of Socks: What to Look for in a Sports Sock

As an athlete, or as someone who enjoys a gut-busting workout, you know you want your full attention on your body mechanics, breathing, and form. You don’t want to be thinking about your socks. Socks may seem inconsequential, but they play a large role when we are physically active. If you have ever been sidelined because your sock has bunched up around your toes, resulting in an enormous heel blister, you know exactly what I am talking about. Different sports require a little something different from your socks, often dependent on weather and if your activity takes place indoors or outdoors. Several characteristics define a great sports sock, though, and these characteristics allow for a focus on your sport, not on your socks.

A great sport sock will offer breathability; when your body is working hard, your feet need to “breathe.”  Endurance sports like long-distance running, triathlons, and long-distance cycling need a sock that will move with you, not against you. Blisters hurt, and they are distracting; the pain of a blister can put you on the bench. Blisters can arise from ill-fitting socks and shoes and socks that slide down off your foot. An ill-fitting sock made of poor construction and fabric may cause corns, fungal infections, and chafing. Physix Gear Sport socks don’t have stitches where they would rub against your foot. Plus, these socks come in various sizes, based on your shoe size and calf size for that ultimate fit.

At Physix Gear Sport, we have a strong focus on high quality, performance-driven socks, including high and low cut compression socksplantar fasciitis socksno-show socks, and more. Physix Gear Sport offers a variety of colors and styles, all with uncompromised quality. Made with an anti-bacterial fabric, Physix Gear socks eliminate odor-causing bacteria resulting in a healthy, moisture-free foot!

If you suffer from plantar fasciitis, you know how intensely painful this tissue inflammation can be and how this pain and discomfort can be life-limiting. Common in runners, plantar fasciitis can also be caused by obesity and wearing shoes that do not offer adequate support. Relief from this stabbing pain may be found in medication, physical therapy, and orthotics. Physix Gear Sport offers a plantar fasciitis sock that provides ongoing comfort via its arch support and graduated compression. The sock improves support and circulation, reduces inflammation, all without restricting your motion.

The right sports sock can go a long way to allowing you to participate fully. Consider the use of an arch sleeve to alleviate the pain of plantar fasciitis, as well as arch deviations, heel spurs, and arthritis. Another option for reducing foot discomfort from arch deviations, plantar fasciitis, arthritis, and tendinitis is using an orthotic insole. Orthotic insoles also aid in the correction of flat feet, runner’s knee, and shin splints.

Our feet bear the brunt of a great deal of movement, even when we don’t participate in physical activities. Carrying our weight, walking on unforgiving surfaces like cement, and being confined in uncomfortable shoes all take a toll on our incredibly complex feet. Don’t take your feet for granted, and treat them to some pampering; massage and stretching exercises improve the foot’s function. Wear footwear that fits correctly and that always makes your feet feel fantastic. Wear the right socks for the sports you enjoy and consider your feet’ importance every time you move.
